The Onoway Museum

The four major exhibit rooms focus on life as it was in the Onoway area: Country home, Main Street, One-Room School and Community & Farm Life. Other exhibits featured throughtout the museum include: Local Indigenous Leather and Bead Work, Canada at War, Entertainment in Onoway, and many more. Our Equipment Shed is our newest addition to the Museum, featuring larger artifacts such as a 1940s Thresher.

Permanent Exhibits

  • Main Street

    This room focuses on the first 50 years of the Village of Onoway (1923-1973). It also incorporates the original door from Eddy Dales General Store, and the original door from the John Mills John Deere dealership.

  • Country Home

    The Country Home depicts the era of the early settlers, from 1900 - 1960.

  • Community & Farm Life

    This room displays tools and equipment from local farmers, dating from around the 1940s. There is also a display depicting the St. Barnabas Mission Hospital, with the original door from 1913.

  • One-Room School

    This exhibit depicts what the classroom in the original Beaupre School would have been like in 1922.

  • UFA Equipment Shed

    Our Equipment shed houses larger artifacts, such as a 1940s thresher, a 1947 FARMALL tractor and old signs from around the community.

  • Canada at War

    This exhibit showcases artifacts from the Boer War, World War I, World War II and the Korean War. The museum is fortunate to have so many donations to help tell the story of our local lads’ involvement in these conflicts.

  • Local Indigenous Leather and Bead Work

    An exhibit featuring moccasins, beaded leather jackets, beaded vests and other items made mainly by Onoway’s Mary Grey, known to many as Grandma Grey.

  • Entertainment in Onoway

    An exhibit featuring the Devil’s Lake Coral and how movie nights took place at the Community Hall on Saturday nights. Devil’s Lake Coral began being built in 1980 on the northwest shore of Devil’s Lake, and opened on August 12th 1981 with Johnny Cash and June Carter.

Temporary Exhibits

  • M.A.D.

    This exhibit showcases the M.A.D. (Music, Art, Drama) program, which was a high school elective available at Onoway High School through 1973 to 1984. Each year musicals such as L’il Abner, Fiddler on the Roof, Kismet, and Orpheus in the Underworld, were played to a packed house.

  • Onoway's Team Sports

    This exhibit showcases Onoway’s Team Sports, including Onoway Minor Hockey, Onoway Skating Club, Onoway Curling and Onoway baseball.
